Residential addition to existing structure

For Baily & Johnson Architects, the practice of architecture combines the thrill of creativity with the challenge of problem solving.  These principles are what motivate us whether it be historic restoration, adaptive reuse or new construction. Our firm has extensive experience over a full range of building types within these categories.

Our residential experience ranges from elegant single-family homes to large developments of multi-family affordable housing. In the field of historic restoration, our clients have included the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office as well as the Stanley-Whitman House museum in Farmington.

Our most significant area of experience and expertise is the adaptive reuse of existing structures. These projects include residential, corporate and municipal as well as healthcare and educational.

Single-family renovation and interior design

At Baily & Johnson Architects we believe that Interior design is an integral part of architecture and one cannot exist without the other. So, like with architecture, it is the thrill of creativity and the challenge of problem solving that motivates us in interior design. Our interior design experience spans a broad range of building types.

Our residential interior design includes both single-family, multi-family and healthcare applications. Our most significant area of experience and expertise, however, is the field of corporate interior design. We also have experience in the hospitality field with the design of bars and restaurants. We do not only design the interiors, but selecting and specifying furniture.

Planning

Planning is an integral part of the design process and Baily & Johnson Architects is experienced in offering these services in a number of different areas. An outline of these areas is as follows:

Code Studies

Analysis of codes and other regulations if often the first step of any design process as it defines the framework within which the project must operate.  We perform this service for almost all our projects.

Needs Assessment Studies

When considering the renovation or adaptive reuse of an existing building, a needs assessment study is necessary to define the scope of the renovation work.  We are particularly practiced in this process since much of our work involves existing buildings.  Funding sources often require these studies before committing to a project.

Space Planning

Space planning is often associated with the modern, corporate interior and the advent of workstations.  Baily & Johnson Architects has considerable experience in this area due to our work for such corporate clients as Allstate Insurance Company for whom we performed space planning for offices throughout New England.  This sort of work continues to be a large part of our portfolio.
